Red Carpet Report:Winners and Losers in Fashion

Looking up from the Autopsy Table

So today was our last day in Los Angeles, which is actually really depressing.  With the silly rainy weather, however, maybe it isn’t such a bad thing.

The first thing we did today was meet with NBC Universal Human Resources department.  We met with the a woman who works with internship applications.  She told us about how to apply for internships and what she looks for in resumes and cover letters.

After that we met with NBC scheduling and development of TV shows.  It was way more complicated than I ever imagined it would be! It was very interesting to see how the development of the internet market for television played into their careers as well.

After that we had lunch and then got a mini tour of the backlot.  Next we met with CSI and got to tour their sets.  The guy who took us around was nice enough to let us take pictures and we got to pretend to be dead bodies in the autopsy room.  Good times.

Later we went to Focus Features and met with the publicity department.  They discussed how all of their movies are very different content wise and therefore are very different by publicity wise.  We also got to talk with them about how youth are viewing movie trailers these days.  We also got some free t-shirts from the movies they have promoted.

Our last stop for the day was meeting with a entertainment lawyer in Century City.  He gave us a lot of insights on the other side of the industry.  It was really interesting to hear how he helps his clients draft contracts and finances.

We had dinner and the headed back to the hotel where we met with an alum who is working in LA.  He was very funny and helpful about how to assert yourself without going overboard.

Anyways, we leave for NC tomorrow, back to cold weather and classes!  Look for some more pictures from the trip soon!

Dream Jobs and Front Row Leno Seats

Okay, so yesterday we went to Universal Studios: Hollywood theme park.  It rained, or more like tsunami-ed ALL MORNING… it was kind of sucky… but by 1ish in the afternoon it stopped, but our shoes were already soaking wet and the rest of the day was pretty miserable.  We still had fun for the most part though.  Since it was rainy we got to go on about anything we wanted, no lines, so that was good.

Fellows on The Mummy!

After the theme park we went to dinner on the City Walk at Wolfgang Puck Bistro, it was yums.

Today we started off the day meeting with ABC World News correspondent Brian Rooney.  He was very interesting to speak with about the changing media sources and other fun information.  We really wanted to break into the Grey’s Anatomy sound stage next door, but we didn’t…

After that we went to Dreamworks Animation and learned how they make animated movies.  The campus was stunning even in the rain, it had beautiful architecture and was really new and clean.  We also got a FREE lunch in the cafeteria, which was super, super good!! They had salmon and yummy Dreamworks cupcakes! All their employees eat for free everyday.  So, I decided that I definitely want to work at Dreamworks now!!

After that we went to the Jay Leno Show where we got to sit FRONT ROW! It was a really cool show and we got to take a picture with Jay before the show.  He remembered us and then ask us to stay after the show and we got to ask him questions for over a half hour!!  We also met with the producer and then ended up going to his restaurant for dinner!

Polaroid with Jay Leno

Then we got to head back to the hotel for the earliest time yet, although we are staying up to watch ourselves on Leno!

We Played Slots in Vegas…

Or at least we tried.  Not only were we not 21, but the mean lady informed us that we couldn’t even be within 10 feet of the machines.  Which is pretty much impossible in the Vegas airport. I did manage to secure this photo however…

Anyway, we got up at 4am today got on our flight to Las Vegas, then made our connection to Burbank, CA.  The plane ride was long, but it was a clear day so the view was absolutely beautiful!!

Upon our arrival in Burbank we checked into our hotel and headed to In-n-Out Burger for some lunch! Next we all took naps while Gibson and Kiwitt got the van.  At this point with the time change it had already been a long day!  Next we got groceries for our breakfasts and then had another short break.

In the evening we had a discussion with two Elon Alumni, Katherine and Ben, who both work at NBC Universal.  They had some really great insights on interviewing and securing jobs in the industry as well as surviving life in LA.

We went to this awesome Greek place for dinner where our crazy waiter gave us all recommendations on what to eat! Finally, the moment I had been waiting weeks for, PINKBERRY!!!  It was well worth the wait and so yummy!!

It has been a long and stressful day, and now I am going to sleep!!
